Had no idea he had a 210 E55. And misses it more than any other car he’s owned. I love mine and have no need for others to love it too, but it feels good when they do. Yes, that is mine in the picture. Zoidbait in the background.

He’s worked his way through some pretty cool stuff.
You would know that if you followed him on twitter or read his books.
:)

I had actually forgotten about that one too until I read that AutoTrader post.

Yeah this was one I never recall him mentioning. Although I thought of you when I saw that article earlier today.

How reliable/expensive to maintain are these? An E55 has been a buck list car for me ever 14-year-old me got an issue of C&D in December 1998 with RennTech V12-swapped W210 on the cover. I know I’ll never have one of those, but I took a shine to the E55 after seeing that and have kind of wanted one ever since. I’m intrigued, because I actually don’t think my wife would kill me if I just brought one home one day (compared to other stuff I’ve been looking at like a 500C Abarth or old Wranglers).

Extremely reliable. Apparently rust can be a problem, but it just doesn’t exist where I live so I don’t know much about that. They have almost no problems that will just cause them to stop working. They’re also extremely easy to work on. If you’re serious I’ll make a list of things to look for.

Thanks. It’ll be a while yet, but I’m starting to roll around 3rd car ideas for when these two are paid off. One will be done this year, but the other probably has 3 years left.

Interesting - didn’t know that. Our previous CEO had a black one for a long time, (the only car I ever saw her drive.)

I have a soft spot for the 210 because my dad had an early production ‘97 E420. Not exactly a classic among the Mercedes lineage but I always appreciated that car.
My favorite modern-ish Mercedes is the first gen CLS55/63.

E420 was a very nice car, great engine, so smooth!
I’m a fan of those CLS’s as well, if only they were more reliable.
